Nagpur Council Election Likely Unopposed: Bawankule

Nagpur: Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday said efforts would be made to ensure the Nagpur Local Authorities constituency Legislative Council election is held unopposed. Speaking to the media, he said the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance enjoys the backing of nearly 75% of voters. Talks would be initiated with all political parties to explore a consensus candidate.

Consensus Efforts Across Maharashtra

"Considering the crisis facing the country, our effort will be to ensure the election is held unopposed," Bawankule said, adding that a similar consensus could be explored in other Legislative Council elections across Maharashtra where feasible. He said the final decision would emerge after consultations, coordination among parties, and discussions within the alliance coordination committee. "We are hopeful all parties will cooperate in the larger interest," he added.

Raigad Guardian Ministership

On Raigad's guardian ministership, Bawankule clarified that the final decision rests with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who will consult deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar before deciding. Dismissing speculation over recent meetings between NCP legislators and the chief minister, he said such interactions also involve constituency issues, development works and alliance coordination, not just politics.
