Nagpur District Receives Massive ₹450 Crore Infusion in Year-End Government Approvals
In a significant year-end financial push, the Maharashtra government issued a flurry of approvals during the final two days of the financial year, March 30 and 31, releasing close to 40 government resolutions (GRs) with a cumulative outlay exceeding ₹450 crore. The substantial funding has been predominantly directed toward projects centered in Nagpur district and adjoining areas within the division, encompassing a diverse range of sectors including infrastructure, welfare, heritage, culture, education, and energy.
Diverse Financial Instruments and Sectoral Allocations
The approvals span multiple financial categories, indicating a strategic mix of instruments rather than a single mode of expenditure. These include direct fund releases, fresh sanctions, loans, and relief assistance, reflecting a comprehensive approach to regional development. Officials have clarified that this cluster of GRs represents a routine year-end exercise aimed at clearing pending proposals and committing budgetary provisions before the March 31 deadline, with a notable concentration of allocations benefiting Nagpur and its surrounding region.
Key Infrastructure and Energy Projects
Among the prominent allocations, ₹16.80 crore was approved as the state's capital investment in the Koradi Thermal Power Project through the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company for the 2025-26 fiscal year. This investment underscores the government's commitment to bolstering the energy sector in the region.
In the urban sector, over ₹70 crore was released to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation specifically for flood relief and restoration works following the devastating deluge in September 2023. This funding is critical for addressing the aftermath of natural disasters and enhancing urban resilience.
Rural Development and Social Welfare Initiatives
Rural areas have also been prominently featured in these approvals. A sanction of ₹1.36 crore was allocated for clearing dues related to civic amenities in flood-affected villages in Narkhed taluka, while ₹2.73 crore was approved for pending survey and investigation works across 134 projects in parts of Nagpur and Wardha districts.
One of the largest components was routed through the social justice department, with ₹143.41 crore cleared for procuring 396 residential units developed by the Nagpur Improvement Trust at Wathoda. These units are slated to be repurposed as hostels, significantly expanding accommodation capacity for beneficiaries and supporting social welfare objectives.
Cultural, Institutional, and Cooperative Support
Institutional and cultural projects have also received substantial allocations. Administrative approval was granted to the Dhamma Global Foundation for a ₹4.99 crore meditation centre and library at Kelzar in Wardha, promoting spiritual and educational growth.
Additionally, ₹2.32 crore was released to settle pending dues for the ‘Shivcharitragatha' exhibition at Nagpur's Central Museum, while funds were earmarked for improving public amenities at protected heritage sites across the division, preserving cultural heritage.
Support to cooperative institutions formed another key component, with approvals including loans to entities such as Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Backward Class Cooperative Spinning Mill Ltd and district cooperative banks under various schemes. This move aims to strengthen the cooperative sector and foster economic development.
Administrative Enhancements
The administrative framework also saw movement, with the extension of six temporary posts under the special action plan for the development of Maoist-affected areas. This step is designed to enhance governance and support in sensitive regions, ensuring continued progress and stability.
Overall, this year-end financial surge highlights the government's focused efforts on accelerating development in Nagpur and its environs, leveraging a mix of financial tools to address diverse needs from infrastructure to social welfare.
