Nagpur: Voting for the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) by-election from the Nagpur Local Authorities' Constituency will see 836 elected representatives from local bodies across Nagpur district exercise their franchise on Thursday. The district administration has put in place arrangements across 27 polling stations for the by-election.

Officials said all logistical, security and administrative arrangements have been finalised, with personnel deployed to ensure the election is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner across all 27 polling stations. The electorate comprises 419 men and 417 women drawn from municipal corporations, municipal councils, nagar panchayats and the Kamptee Cantonment Board. Voting will be conducted between 8am and 4pm on Thursday.

District election officer and collector Kumar Ashirwad said the administration has completed all preparations to ensure smooth conduct of polling and maintain law and order during the electoral process. Polling centres have been set up across municipal councils in Narkhed, Katol, Kalmeshwar, Saoner, Parseoni, Ramtek, Mouda, Kamptee, Hingna, Umred and Bhiwapur talukas. Voting will also take place at centres located in nagar panchayats including Mowad, Kondhali, Mohpa, Khapa, Kandri, Wanadongri, Wadi, Butibori, Besa-Pipla and Godhani, among others.

Two polling stations have been established for the electorate from Nagpur Municipal Corporation, while arrangements have also been made at the Kamptee Cantonment Board. Election officials said a strong room has been set up at Bachat Bhavan in the District Collectorate premises for storage of ballot boxes after polling. The same venue will host the counting process on June 22.

The bypoll is being held to fill the vacancy created after the revenue minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, resigned from the Legislative Council following his election to the Maharashtra Assembly in 2024.
