In a significant move to revitalize the state's mining sector, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has called for a sharp focus on adding value to mineral products. He emphasized that this should be achieved through both exports and domestic consumption to maximize economic benefits.
Boosting Revenue and Curbing Illegal Activity
During a comprehensive review of mining activities, the Chief Minister pointed out that Odisha currently leads in mining revenue. He instructed officials to study the mining system of the neighbouring state to identify and implement best practices in Andhra Pradesh. To tackle the persistent issue of illegal mining, Naidu stressed the need for enhanced real-time surveillance using drones and RTGS (Real-Time Ground Surveillance) technology.
He also underscored the urgency to strengthen the AP Mineral Development Corporation to play a more pivotal role in the sector's growth. The minister for mines, Kollu Ravindra, along with other senior officials, were present in the meeting.
Focus on Value Addition and Futuristic Minerals
Chief Minister Naidu highlighted the state's rich mineral wealth, which includes deposits of limestone, beach sand, iron ore, manganese, quartz, silica sand, clay, and granite. He directed the mines department to actively encourage mining companies and explore providing them with incentives by initiating discussions with the central government.
"Officials should make concerted efforts to provide value addition to different mining products," Naidu stated. He further advised that the state should focus on futuristic minerals by seeking expert advice, ensuring the sector remains competitive and forward-looking.
Metal Cluster for North Andhra and Amaravati Supply
Linking mining to broader industrial growth, Naidu proposed establishing a metal cluster in the North Andhra region. This plan takes into account the rapid industrial expansion happening in and around Visakhapatnam, aiming to create an integrated industrial ecosystem.
On the infrastructure front, with the Amaravati capital development works gaining momentum, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure an uninterrupted supply of construction materials. He instructed them to coordinate with district collectors to arrange the supply of material to the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). Additionally, he stressed the need to increase public satisfaction with the free sand supply policy.
