Nashik Civic Body Forms 16-Member Standing Committee with BJP Dominance
Nashik Civic Body Forms Standing Committee, BJP Holds Majority

Nashik Municipal Corporation Constitutes 16-Member Standing Committee

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) officially formed its 16-member standing committee on Monday, with Mayor Himgauri Aher announcing the composition during a General Body meeting. The committee's structure reflects the political dynamics within the local civic body, setting the stage for upcoming administrative decisions.

Political Composition and Strategic Alliances

The standing committee includes 9 members from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 4 from Shiv Sena, 2 from UBT, and 1 from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). These numbers were determined based on the registered strength of each party or group at the divisional commissionerate, ensuring proportional representation.

Mayor Himgauri Aher declared the members party-wise after receiving nominations from respective group leaders prior to the meeting. Notably, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), despite having only one corporator, Mayuri Pawar, secured a seat by forming a joint group with Shiv Sena at the Nashik divisional commissionerate. Additionally, independent corporator and former BJP rebel Mukesh Shahane was inducted as an NCP nominee after registering with its corporator group.

Detailed Member List and Upcoming Elections

The committee members are as follows: BJP—Madhuri Bolkar, Nitin Nigal, Pallavi Ganore, Deepali Kulkarni, Indubai Khetade, Aditi Pande, Sarita Sonawane, Jayashree Gaikwad, and Machhindra Sanap; Shiv Sena-MNS group—Mayuri Pawar, Kiran Gamane, Rahul Dive, and Ranjana Borade; UBT-Congress group—Bharti Tajanpure and Yogesh Gadekar; and NCP-independent group—Mukesh Shahane.

The NMC administration is expected to soon request Divisional Commissioner Pravin Gedam to declare the election schedule for the committee's chairman post, likely to be held next week. A letter will be sent to Commissioner Gedam, requesting him to set the election program and appoint a presiding officer to oversee the process.

BJP's Majority and Implications

With 9 members in the 16-member standing committee, the BJP holds a clear majority. Since 9 votes are required to secure the chairperson position, it is evident that the next standing committee chairperson will be from the BJP. This majority positions the party to influence key municipal decisions and policies in Nashik, highlighting its dominant role in the local governance structure.
