Nashik: Municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri and MLA Devyani Pharande on Wednesday conducted a joint inspection of the ongoing underpass construction at Dwarka junction. They directed civic officials to prioritize traffic flow improvements, remove encroachments, and prevent waterlogging ahead of the monsoon season.
Key Directives Issued
During the site visit, Khatri instructed the civic administration to take immediate action to ensure that rainwater does not accumulate in the busy Dwarka area during the monsoon. She also ordered the removal of encroachments along service roads and parallel roads adjoining the highway to ease congestion.
Choke Points and Road Upgrades
Officials examined choke points near Dwarka circle and discussed improvements to connecting roads. Khatri said the Kathe Galli junction would be upgraded to ensure smoother vehicular movement and asked officials to fast-track works in view of rising traffic pressure.
MLA Devyani Pharande pushed for expediting road works between Kathe Galli and Bhabhanagar and suggested widening the Bhabhanagar stretch to reduce bottlenecks. She also called for shifting electric poles on the Old Nashik road to free up carriageway space.
Officials Present
City engineer Sanjay Agrawal and other senior officials were present during the visit. Authorities said the Dwarka junction assumes added importance with the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, which is expected to draw lakhs of devotees.
Officials added that the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation has accelerated underpass work to ensure timely completion and minimize inconvenience.
Strict Action Against Encroachments
Civic officials noted that encroachments along adjoining roads have been a key cause of congestion and said strict action would be taken to clear them and streamline traffic movement.
