Nashik farmers to meet CM Fadnavis over land acquisition

Nashik: Farmers opposing the state government's proposed land acquisition are set to raise their concerns with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tomorrow after Minister Dilip Zirwal assured them of facilitating a meeting. The agitating farmers have alleged that the project would threaten their homes and livelihoods, intensifying their opposition to the acquisition.

Leading the agitation, Karan Gaykar, president of the Chhava Krantiveer Sanghatana, organized a march of farmers and their family members to the residence of Minister Dilip Zirwal. Upon learning about the protest, Zirwal, who had left for a tour of Peth taluka, returned to hold discussions with the farmers. During an open meeting at his residence, the farmers outlined their concerns and suggested alternative alignments for the project.

While opposition to the project continues to grow, the district administration has proceeded with the acquisition process by issuing notices and carrying out land measurements. After hearing the farmers, Zirwal spoke to the district collector over the phone regarding the issue. Gaykar stated that the minister assured the protesters that their concerns would be discussed with ministers Chhagan Bhujbal, Girish Mahajan, and Dada Bhuse on Tuesday.

“The farmers agitated outside the residence of Zirwal, who has assured us of facilitating a meeting with the CM. We are sure the chief minister will provide an appropriate solution,” Gaykar said. The agitating families expressed hope that the proposed meeting with the chief minister would lead to a favorable resolution of the dispute.
