The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has officially announced a critical deadline for property taxpayers within the city, setting March 10 as the final date to register any objections concerning property tax assessment and related details. This move is part of the civic body's ongoing efforts to streamline tax collection and ensure accuracy in its records.
Key Details for Property Taxpayers
According to NMC officials, there are approximately 5.90 lakh property taxpayers currently on the records of the property tax department. To facilitate the objection process, the NMC has made the 'property registers' available at each of its six divisional offices across the city. Taxpayers are strongly encouraged to visit these offices and confirm the details in these registers to verify the correctness of their property assessments.
What Taxpayers Should Verify
Property owners should meticulously check several aspects in the 'property registers', including:
- The names of property owners as listed.
- The addresses of the properties.
- Any necessary corrections in the names of owners.
- Concerns related to tax bills and calculations.
- Changes in the use of properties, such as residential or commercial.
Important Conditions and Procedures
NMC officials have emphasized that if property owners do not raise any objections before the March 10 deadline, the property tax department will maintain the details as they currently appear in its 'property registry'. Additionally, property owners must ensure that all outstanding property tax dues are paid in full before they can file any objections. This requirement is aimed at preventing delays and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
Public Notice and Revenue Goals
The NMC administration has issued a public notice in this regard, appealing to all property taxpayers to register their objections if they have any discrepancies. This initiative is closely tied to the civic body's broader strategy to boost revenue. During a comprehensive survey conducted approximately three years ago, the NMC identified numerous properties, both residential and commercial, that had undertaken additional construction without obtaining the necessary permissions from the civic body.
As a result, the civic body has informed the affected property owners about the additional areas and has levied taxes accordingly on these unauthorized constructions. The NMC is actively implementing several measures to enhance its revenue streams, with a property tax collection target of Rs 275 crore set for the current financial year. So far, the corporation has successfully collected Rs 215 crore in revenue through property tax, demonstrating progress toward its financial objectives.
Property taxpayers in Nashik are urged to act promptly and take advantage of this opportunity to ensure their tax assessments are accurate and fair, thereby avoiding potential disputes and penalties in the future.
