The city unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) conducted an agitation on Monday to condemn the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices. The protesters organized a bullock cart rally and a tonga morcha at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters, demanding an urgent rollback of the fuel price hike.
Protest Against BJP-Led Government
The agitators held the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government responsible for failing to manage the situation, which they claimed is directly affecting the common people. Shrikant Patil, head of the NCP (SP) city unit, warned that the agitation would be intensified in the coming days if the government does not take corrective measures.
Impact on Common People
Patil stated, "People are already suffering a lot because of inflation. The government's decision to increase fuel prices is going to directly impact their overall monthly budget. Transportation is going to cost more, and prices of daily use items have already started skyrocketing. The situation will push inflation up further."
Slogans and Allegations
The agitators raised slogans against the BJP, claiming that the central government has failed to manage the country's finances properly. Sopan Kaka Chavan, the NCP (SP) leader in the PMC, said, "The BJP gave false promises to people just to get their support during elections. The party has never delivered on its promises. Things will only get worse if the government fails to make decisions in favor of the public."
The protest highlights the growing discontent over rising fuel prices, which have a cascading effect on transportation costs and the prices of essential commodities. The NCP (SP) has vowed to continue its agitation until the government rolls back the price hike.
