In a significant move to enhance policing infrastructure and personnel welfare in Gujarat's diamond city, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi inaugurated a new police station and laid the foundation for modern residential units on Saturday.
New Police Station Inaugurated on Tapi River Banks
The newly built Ashwini Kumar police station was officially opened to the public. This facility has been carved out from the existing jurisdictions of the Kapodra and Varachha police stations. Constructed at a cost of Rs 1 crore, the project saw active participation from the public.
During the inauguration ceremony on the premises, Sanghavi also unveiled a statue of India's first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The station is strategically located on the banks of the Tapi river in the Varachha area.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy CM Sanghavi highlighted Surat's deep historical roots. "Surat holds immense historical significance as the land of the Tapi, referred to as Suryaputri, and of Danveer Karna," he stated.
Boost to Police Housing with Modern Quarters
In a parallel development aimed at improving living conditions for the police force, Sanghavi laid the foundation stone for the construction of 232 modern, fully-equipped residential units. These quarters are planned at the police headquarters in Athwalines.
This ambitious housing project, with an estimated cost of Rs 75 crore, will be developed across multiple locations in the city. The primary objective is to provide upgraded and dignified housing for police staff and their families.
Enhanced Policing for Varachha and Kapodra Areas
City Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut explained the operational scope of the new station. He confirmed that the Ashwini Kumar police station will cover approximately 35% of the Varachha area and 30% of Kapodra's limits.
This redistribution is expected to reduce the burden on the two older stations and allow for more focused and efficient policing. The new setup promises to deliver round-the-clock policing services to residents in its jurisdiction, aiming to significantly improve public safety and responsiveness.
The dual initiatives of a new police station and modern housing quarters mark a substantial investment in Surat's security infrastructure and the welfare of its police personnel.
