Trichy's New Private Bus Terminus Inaugurated, Aims to Decongest City Traffic
New Private Bus Terminus Opens in Trichy to Ease Traffic

In a significant move to tackle traffic congestion, a new private omnibus terminus located behind the integrated bus terminus (KKBT) in Panjapur, Trichy, was officially opened on Wednesday. The inauguration was performed by Municipal Administration Minister K N Nehru.

A Solution to Haphazard Parking and Traffic Woes

Minister Nehru highlighted that the primary goal of the new terminus is to decongest city roads. For a long time, the haphazard parking of long-distance private buses across various parts of Trichy has been a major contributor to traffic snarls. The new facility is expected to bring order by providing a dedicated space for these operations.

The terminus, developed on approximately four acres of land, has the capacity to handle 58 buses at a time, including a fleet of multi-axle vehicles. Buses heading to major destinations like Chennai, Bengaluru, and Coimbatore will now use the new terminus. They will enter via the service road located behind the KKBT and exit using the service road of the Trichy-Madurai National Highway.

Upcoming Infrastructure Projects and Political Conference

During the event, Minister Nehru also provided updates on other key infrastructure developments for the city. He revealed that the Multi-Utility Facility Centre (MUFC) in Panjapur is likely to be inaugurated before the end of this month. Furthermore, he has urged the Chief Minister to open several other projects by month's end.

These projects include a new block at the MGMGH, the Panjapur vegetable market, and the aforementioned MUFC. The minister noted that once the vegetable market becomes operational, work on a planned truck terminal will also commence.

Speaking to reporters, Nehru also shared details about an upcoming political event. The DMK's delta region women's wing conference, initially planned for January 19, will now be held on January 26 in Sengipatti, Thanjavur. The event is expected to witness a massive gathering of around 1.2 lakh members.

Inauguration of Water Projects and School Building

The minister's visit was packed with developmental activities. He inaugurated a crucial new drinking water project on the Cauvery river near Kambarasampettai. Implemented at a cost of Rs 14.9 crore, this project is designed to draw 27.2 million litres per day (MLD) of water.

Additionally, he opened a Mass Balancing Reservoir (MBR) constructed with an investment of Rs 21.2 crore. This reservoir will store 20 lakh litres of drinking water, supporting the city's 24x7 water supply project.

Adding to the day's events, Minister Nehru laid the foundation stone for a new building for the Corporation Middle School in Thennur Anna Nagar. This educational infrastructure project is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 6.6 crore.

The inauguration of the private bus terminus marks a concrete step towards improving urban mobility in Trichy. Alongside the announced water supply and educational projects, it underscores the government's focus on enhancing civic amenities and infrastructure for the residents of the city.
