Gurgaon: A newborn girl, estimated to be one or two days old, was discovered abandoned near the Jhajjar Bypass Road in Farukhnagar on Monday afternoon. The infant was found by Sombir, a resident of Sultanpur village who owns an eatery on the Farukhnagar-Jhajjar bypass.
Discovery of the Infant
Sombir stated that he came across the baby at around 2 p.m. while heading to a nearby transport office. He noticed an object wrapped in a white cloth lying on a platform beneath a peepal tree. Driven by curiosity, he approached and uncovered the cloth to find a baby girl inside. He immediately inquired with people in the vicinity, but no one had any information about the parents or how the infant ended up there.
Police Response and Legal Action
Sombir dialed the emergency number 112, prompting a police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Dharm Singh to arrive at the scene. Based on Sombir's complaint, an FIR was registered under Section 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to the abandonment of children under 12 years of age.
The infant was initially taken to the community health centre in Farukhnagar. However, as no doctor was available there, she was referred to the Civil Hospital in Sector 10, where she was admitted to the neonatal ward for medical care. Police obtained the medico-legal report prepared by the hospital doctors.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched efforts to identify and locate the child's parents. Further investigation is ongoing, with police exploring all leads to trace the individuals responsible for abandoning the newborn.
