Palakkad: A tragic incident occurred on Saturday when a nine-year-old girl drowned in the Bharathapuzha river near Desamangalam. The deceased has been identified as Veda, daughter of Ajesh, a resident of Mundakkottukurussi in Kayiliad near Shoranur.

Incident Details

According to police reports, the girl had accompanied her relatives to bathe in the river at Chenganamkunnu Kadavu in Desamangalam panchayat. While bathing, she slipped into deep water and drowned. The relatives and locals immediately sprang into action and rescued the child from the water.

Emergency Response

After being rescued, Veda was first rushed to a private clinic at Koottupatha for initial medical attention. Subsequently, she was transferred to the Government Medical College in Thrissur for specialised treatment. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, her life could not be saved.
