Nitish Kumar to Personally Select Successor and Guide New Bihar Government
Union Minister Giriraj Singh announced on Saturday that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will personally choose his successor and the ministers for the new government in Bihar. This declaration came during a press interaction at Patna airport, where Singh emphasized Nitish Kumar's pivotal role in the state's political future.
JD(U) Leaders Confirm Nitish's Continued Influence
JD(U) national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha reinforced this stance, noting that Nitish Kumar himself has expressed his intention to guide the incoming administration. Jha highlighted that Nitish's primary objective is to elevate Bihar into one of the top ten most developed states in India, a goal he plans to oversee closely.
Giriraj Singh elaborated, "Except during Parliament sessions, Nitish Kumar will remain actively involved in Bihar. The formation of the new government will occur precisely when he decides. Nitish Kumar has been a transformative leader in Bihar, dedicating nearly two decades to advancing the state's development through effective leadership. Even today, he makes decisions independently and executes them at the opportune moment."
Deputy CM Appointment and Party Dynamics
Senior JD(U) MLA Harinarayan Singh confirmed that Nishant Kumar, Nitish's son, is set to become the deputy chief minister and a member of the legislative council. This decision was finalized during a meeting of party MPs and legislators held at the chief minister's residence on Friday evening. Nishant Kumar is scheduled to formally join the JD(U) on Sunday.
However, Sanjay Kumar Jha clarified that initially, Nishant will focus on party work, with the JD(U) leadership determining his specific role in the new state government at a later stage.
BJP's Role and Upcoming Meetings
In related developments, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reportedly summoned Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary for a meeting on Sunday. While it remains uncertain whether Choudhary will travel to Delhi or Bagdogra to accompany Shah during his visit to West Bengal, their discussion is anticipated to center on the formation of a new government. This administration would mark a historic shift, potentially featuring a BJP chief minister for the first time in Bihar's history.
Implications of Nitish's Rajya Sabha Nomination
The political landscape in Bihar is poised for a significant transformation following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's filing of nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha. This move sets the stage for a power transition within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with expectations of a BJP chief minister and Nishant Kumar as deputy chief minister. This arrangement would represent a novel configuration in Bihar's governance structure.
The evolving situation underscores Nitish Kumar's enduring influence in Bihar politics, as he prepares to steer the state's development from a guiding position while orchestrating a smooth transfer of power.
