NTK Accuses Karur Police of Biased Conduct During Candidate Meeting

The Karur unit of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) submitted a formal petition to the district collector on Wednesday, alleging biased and high-handed conduct by local police officials in connection with a candidate introduction meeting held earlier this month.

Allegations of Permission Revocation and Disruption

According to the petition, NTK had obtained prior permission from the Chinthamanipatti police on March 9 to organize a candidate introduction meeting near the Tharagampatti bus stand on March 15. The meeting commenced as scheduled around 5 PM. However, party members allege that police abruptly revoked the permission around 5:55 PM, citing enforcement of the model code of conduct following the announcement of election dates.

During the event, a group of locals reportedly disrupted the meeting, damaging sound equipment and forcing it to halt. NTK claims that police failed to prevent this disruption and instead acted in a high-handed and biased manner under pressure from ruling party members.

Seeking New Meeting Permission

In response to the incident, NTK sources have stated that they have sought permission for another meeting at Puliyur on Saturday. We are yet to get permission from Karur police, a source confirmed, highlighting ongoing tensions regarding event approvals in the district.

The petition underscores concerns about fair political practices and law enforcement impartiality during the election period, with NTK urging the district collector to investigate the alleged misconduct.
