SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and discussed the restoration of statehood, among other pressing issues. Informing about the meeting on social media platform X, Omar wrote that they also held discussions on the state of the economy and the pace of development in the region.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for continued support from the central government to accelerate economic growth, strengthen connectivity, generate employment, expand infrastructure, and enhance public welfare across Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed that sustained assistance from the Centre is crucial for the region's progress.
Omar also congratulated Prime Minister Modi for completing 12 uninterrupted years in office, acknowledging his leadership and service to the nation.
On Wednesday, the Chief Minister met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi and requested an augmentation of train services in the Kashmir Valley. This request comes particularly in light of the scheduled closure of Srinagar airport for 16 days in October for runway maintenance and other repairs. Enhanced rail connectivity would help mitigate travel disruptions during that period.
The meetings underscore the ongoing dialogue between the Jammu and Kashmir government and the central administration on key issues affecting the region's development and daily life.
