Palakkad Candidate Takes High Road, Ignores CPM Leader's 'Joker' Taunt
In a display of political restraint, UDF candidate from Palakkad, Ramesh Pisharody, has chosen not to engage in a war of words with senior CPM leader T M Thomas Isaac, who recently referred to him as a 'komali' (joker). When pressed for a response on Monday, Pisharody firmly stated that he would not stoop to the same level as a senior leader like Isaac.
Pisharody Emphasizes Cultural Decorum in Politics
Ramesh Pisharody highlighted the importance of maintaining dignity in political discourse. He remarked, "Congress, which had governed the country, has given the freedom to express opinions. We have the right to comment on others. Let him make his comments using that freedom." He further added, "I have culture. It is not something you get through protests."
The exchange stems from Isaac's reaction to UDF's allegations of a deal between CPM and BJP in the Palakkad constituency. Isaac dismissed these claims, suggesting they were made because Congress fielded a comedian instead of a widely accepted candidate.
Defending Artistic Contributions to Kerala's Political Landscape
Pisharody, a seasoned artist with 26 years in the field, defended the role of artists in politics. He pointed out that people have forgotten the contributions of artists associated with the Kerala People's Arts Club (KPAC) in popularizing the communist movement in the state.
"Since when have these leaders started opposing art and artists? I don't know why people who do not stand with them are seen with hostility," he questioned.
Detailing his artistic credentials, Pisharody noted:
- Performed on over 3,000 stages
- Acted in more than 50 films
- Scripted two movies
A Call for Political Decorum for Future Generations
Pisharody expressed his commitment to upholding standards in politics, similar to his conduct in the arts. He stated, "I have conducted myself well in the field of art so far. I expect the same in politics too, so that the coming generation does not see it as a bad platform. That is why I am not replying in the same manner."
This incident underscores the ongoing tensions in Kerala's political arena, particularly in the Palakkad constituency, as candidates navigate personal attacks while striving to maintain a respectful public image.
