A recent spike in domestic LPG cylinder bookings has created temporary hurdles for households in Patna, making it difficult for many to obtain timely refills. This surge has overwhelmed digital channels, leading to widespread technical glitches and prompting residents to turn to in-person visits at local distribution agencies.
Digital Platforms Overwhelmed by High Traffic Volumes
Numerous residents reported significant difficulties accessing online booking systems, IVRS phone lines, and mobile applications due to exceptionally high traffic volumes. These issues resulted in extended waiting times or complete unresponsiveness, forcing consumers to seek alternatives. Birendra Kumar, a resident of Kadamkuan, shared his frustration, stating he attempted to book an LPG refill over three days but encountered repeated "server down" messages on the online platform. He added, "No one is taking calls at the gas agency, and the number is often switched off."
Similarly, Jyoti Kumar highlighted that the online booking system, including SMS and missed call services, appeared to be suspended. He questioned, "The Indane Oil app is down, and officials claim there is no problem. Whom do we contact for assistance?"
Long Queues Emerge at Gas Agencies Across the City
As digital channels faltered, noticeable queues formed at several gas outlets throughout Patna. Consumers, preferring direct follow-ups, flocked to these agencies to secure their refills. Agency staff worked diligently to manage the increased footfall while maintaining regular delivery schedules. Anand Kumar of Gola Road recounted his experience, noting he booked a cylinder five days prior but received no delivery. After contacting the gas agency, he was advised to wait another week due to backlogs. Ultimately, he visited the Jagdeopath agency, waited in line for four hours, and finally obtained a refilled cylinder.
Reports of Erroneous Delivery Notifications Add to Confusion
Compounding the issue, many residents who had placed orders received automated messages falsely indicating that their cylinders had been delivered. Ayush Anand detailed his ordeal on social media platform X, explaining he booked LPG on March 11 but never received it. He stated, "I got a message on Saturday saying the refill was delivered, but no one came, and no delivery attempt was made." This discrepancy has fueled further anxiety and mistrust among consumers.
Officials Urge Prudent Booking Practices and Digital Utilization
In response to the crisis, officials have appealed to residents to book refills only when genuinely necessary and to avoid premature requests. They emphasized using available digital channels or helplines for updates to alleviate pressure on the system. Amarnath Singh, who faced technical issues during booking, criticized the administration, saying, "The LPG booking number has not been working for days. Authorities should stop claiming everything is normal."
The situation underscores the challenges in managing sudden increases in demand for essential services, highlighting the need for robust digital infrastructure and effective communication from service providers to ensure reliable access to domestic fuel in Patna.
