Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for a landmark two-day visit to Assam, starting Saturday, with a packed itinerary that includes his first-ever stop at the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in Guwahati. The visit is seen as a significant move to galvanize party cadre ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
A Grand Welcome and Political Pitstop
The Assam Pradesh BJP has rolled out the red carpet for the Prime Minister, with state media in-charge Rupam Goswami confirming all preparations are complete. PM Modi is scheduled to arrive at the party's state headquarters in Basistha Chariali around 6 pm on Saturday. This marks a historic first, as a sitting Prime Minister will be visiting the party's Assam office.
Goswami stated that all senior party workers have been invited, with other workers also expected to attend the program at the headquarters. He emphasized that the PM's visit is poised to greatly encourage and motivate the party's grassroots workers in the run-up to the polls.
Roadshow and Infrastructure Inaugurations
Prior to the party office event, the Prime Minister's day will commence with a major public engagement. Upon landing at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, he will inaugurate the newly constructed terminal building. Following the inauguration, Modi will take part in a walkthrough of the facility and address a gathering there.
The highlight of his arrival will be a massive roadshow. The convoy will travel from the airport to the BJP headquarters, covering a 30-kilometer stretch through the city. The party anticipates a huge turnout, with between 100,000 to 150,000 people expected to line the route to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister.
Another key moment on Saturday will be the unveiling of an 80-foot tall statue of Assam's first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi, a revered freedom fighter. This act is rich with symbolic significance, linking the current leadership with the state's historical icons.
Second Day: Tribute, Dialogue, and Development
On Sunday, the Prime Minister's schedule reflects a blend of tribute, unique public interaction, and developmental projects. He will begin by paying homage at the Swahid Smarak Kshetra, a memorial dedicated to the martyrs of the Assam Movement.
In a distinctive event, Modi will then hold a "Pariksha Pe Charcha" (Discussion on Exams) session with 25 students. This interactive meet is set to take place uniquely on a vessel cruising the Brahmaputra River, adding a memorable backdrop to the conversation.
The visit will conclude with a focus on industrial development. The Prime Minister will travel to Namrup to perform the Bhoomi Pujan (ground-breaking ceremony) for a new ammonia-urea fertilizer plant, a project aimed at boosting the region's agricultural and industrial economy.
This comprehensive visit underscores the political and developmental focus of the central government on Assam, blending symbolic gestures with concrete infrastructure and welfare announcements.
