Prayagraj Electoral Roll Revision Concludes with Major Voter Surge
The special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Prayagraj district has been completed, marking a significant step in preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The process of filing claims and objections concluded on Friday, revealing a substantial increase in new voter registrations.
Record New Voter Applications Filed
District election officials reported that 2,66,237 new applicants submitted Form-6 during the campaign period. This remarkable figure reflects heightened participation from young and first-time voters eager to exercise their democratic rights. These applications will now undergo detailed scrutiny before being added to the final electoral roll, which is scheduled for publication on April 10.
Electorate Expected to Expand Significantly
When the draft electoral roll was initially released on January 6, Prayagraj had 35,36,555 registered voters. Following two months of intensive revision efforts, officials anticipate the total number to rise to approximately 38,02,792 voters. This represents a notable expansion of the district's electorate as political activities intensify ahead of the crucial state elections.
Database Cleanup and Verification Process
As part of the comprehensive exercise, the administration prioritized cleaning up the existing voter database. During verification procedures, 10.62 lakh voters were flagged as "suspected" due to logical inconsistencies or mapping-related issues. Authorities issued notices to 9.36 lakh voters and completed hearings in 9.19 lakh cases.
Officials emphasized that the verification process will continue to ensure a transparent and accurate voter list, free from discrepancies that could compromise electoral integrity.
Continuous Voter Registration Opportunities
Authorities clarified that although the special revision drive has concluded, voter registration remains open throughout the year. Eligible citizens, particularly youth who have recently turned 18, can still apply for inclusion in the electoral rolls. This ongoing accessibility ensures that no eligible voter is excluded from participating in the democratic process.
The successful completion of the intensive revision in Prayagraj sets a positive precedent for electoral preparations across Uttar Pradesh as the state gears up for the 2027 Assembly elections.
