A disturbing incident of violence marred the birthday celebrations of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Sri Sathya Sai district, where a pregnant woman was allegedly assaulted by a political party worker. The police confirmed the event on Monday, highlighting a clash over noise and safety concerns during the festivities.

Altercation Over Firecrackers Turns Violent

The incident occurred on Sunday night in Mutyalavandlapalli village, located within the Tanakallu mandal. Workers of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) were enthusiastically bursting firecrackers on the streets as part of the birthday celebrations for their leader. Sandhya Rani, a local resident, confronted the party workers. She raised objections to the loud fireworks, citing the disturbance they caused and expressing genuine safety concerns for herself and others.

Her protest quickly escalated into a heated argument with the YSRCP activists. Despite her visibly pregnant condition, the situation turned physical. During the altercation, one of the workers allegedly attacked Sandhya Rani. The assault resulted in injuries to the expectant mother, prompting immediate action from those present at the scene.

Hospitalization and Police Action

Following the attack, Sandhya Rani was swiftly rushed to the Kadiri Government Hospital for urgent medical attention. Hospital authorities reported that she sustained injuries from the assault and is currently under close observation by doctors who are monitoring her condition and that of her unborn child.

Acting on a formal complaint filed by the victim, the Tanakallu police have registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. The accused has been identified as Ajay Dev, a YSRCP worker hailing from the same village. Police officials have stated that further legal action will be determined based on the findings and outcome of their ongoing probe.

Community Outrage and Political Implications

This assault on a pregnant woman over a simple civic complaint has sparked outrage locally and raised serious questions about the conduct of political cadres during public celebrations. The incident underscores the tensions that can arise between public festivities and the right of residents to peace and safety. The police's prompt registration of a case is a critical step, but the community awaits concrete action against the accused to ensure justice for Sandhya Rani.
