Premallatha Vijayakant Accuses AIADMK's EPS of Betrayal, Releases 2024 Poll Agreement

In a dramatic escalation of political tensions, DMDK treasurer Premallatha Vijayakant launched a scathing attack on AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday. She publicly released the 2024 election agreement document she signed with the AIADMK, which explicitly stated that the DMDK would be allocated an MP seat. This move comes as a direct response to what she describes as Palaniswami's failure to honor the pact.

Allegations of Deception and Broken Promises

Addressing reporters, Premallatha did not mince words, accusing EPS of having 'cheated' her by reneging on the agreement. "EPS is a former Chief Minister. A person of his stature should keep up his words, not go back on them like a third-rate political speaker," she asserted. Her decision to make the document public was prompted by what she termed as EPS's 'demeaning' remarks about the DMDK, which she felt compelled to counter with concrete evidence.

Premallatha revealed that she released the poll agreement for the first time at the Annamalaiyar temple, a significant location in Tamil Nadu politics. She detailed that according to the pact, the AIADMK was supposed to provide a Rajya Sabha seat to the DMDK in 2025. However, EPS allegedly refused, claiming that no such agreement existed. "When asked to specify the year when DMDK would be given the RS seat, EPS said his vocal assurance carries more significance than the written word," Premallatha recounted, highlighting the contradiction between oral promises and documented commitments.

Consequences and Political Fallout

The DMDK leader emphasized that EPS ultimately went back on his words and denied the Rajya Sabha seat, a move she condemned as a breach of trust. She warned that EPS would face severe repercussions for his actions in the upcoming assembly elections. "He should have given the RS seat in 2025, but he refused, saying that there was no such agreement," Premallatha stated, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

This development marks a significant rift in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, with the DMDK, a key regional party, openly challenging the AIADMK leadership. The release of the agreement document not only exposes internal discord but also raises questions about coalition integrity and electoral promises. As tensions simmer, all eyes are on how this controversy will impact voter sentiment and alliance dynamics in the state.
