Pune Influencer Fined Rs 50,000 by PMPML for Posing as Conductor in Viral Video
Pune influencer fined Rs 50,000 for fake conductor video

In a stern move against unauthorized social media activities, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has imposed a hefty penalty on a digital content creator. The influencer was fined Rs 50,000 for filming a video aboard a public bus while impersonating a conductor.

The Incident and Immediate Action

The incident came to light earlier this month when the individual, in pursuit of viral content, borrowed the uniform and ticket vending machine of an actual PMPML conductor. He proceeded to create a video inside a moving bus, posing as a staff member. The transport utility's officials took a serious view of this breach of protocol and security.

Following an investigation, the PMPML sent a formal notice to the influencer, asking for an explanation for his actions. Kishor Chauhan, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of PMPML, stated that despite receiving the notice, the individual failed to provide a satisfactory response or justify his conduct to the authorities.

Strict Rules for Filming on Public Transport

This case has highlighted the existing regulations concerning photography and videography on Pune's public transport. PMPML officials clarified that anyone wishing to make a reel or video inside a bus must obtain prior permission from the corporation. This process involves submitting a formal request and paying a prescribed fee for the same.

The body emphasized that such rules are in place to ensure passenger safety, prevent disruption of services, and protect the dignity and functionality of its workforce. Impersonating staff members is considered a serious offense as it can mislead passengers and compromise operational security.

Consequences and Final Warning

As a result of the influencer's actions and his lack of response to the notice, the PMPML administration decided to levy a fine of Rs 50,000. The individual has been directed to pay the penalty within a strict deadline of seven days from the date of the order, which was issued on Wednesday.

PRO Kishor Chauhan added a significant warning: failure to pay the fine within the stipulated period will lead to further legal action. An FIR (First Information Report) will be lodged against the social media influencer with the police, escalating the matter from a civil penalty to a potential criminal case.

This decisive action by the PMPML serves as a clear message to content creators and the public alike. While creativity is encouraged, it must not come at the cost of violating rules, impersonating officials, or disrupting essential public services. The transport body is now keen on enforcing its guidelines more strictly to prevent similar incidents in the future.
