Pune's LPG Delivery System Still Failing to Meet 96-Hour Deadline Consistently
Despite repeated assurances from district authorities, the mandated 96-hour delivery timeline for LPG refills continues to be inconsistently met across several parts of Pune. Dealers across the city report that while the overall supply situation has shown significant improvement, it has not yet fully stabilized to ensure timely deliveries in all areas.
Mixed Progress in Different City Zones
A city-based LPG dealer provided detailed insights into the current situation. "Supply has increased substantially compared to previous weeks, but we're still experiencing delays in localities with exceptionally high numbers of pending bookings," the dealer explained. "Customer panic has definitely subsided, but gas agencies continue to face considerable pressure."
The dealer elaborated on the geographical disparities in service delivery. "In approximately half of my service area, we're now successfully completing deliveries within the 96-hour window. However, regions with substantial backlogs continue to experience delays beyond this timeframe. We're optimistic that the timeline will be uniformly met across all areas within the coming days."
Quantifying the improvement, the dealer noted a significant reduction in pending bookings. "My pending bookings have decreased from around 6,500 to approximately 4,000, which represents meaningful progress. The current supply levels are robust and generally sufficient to meet existing demand."
Changing Customer Behavior Patterns
Dealers have observed a notable shift in customer behavior at agency offices. "We're seeing more customers visiting for administrative services rather than for refill bookings," another dealer reported. "Many people are coming in for KYC updates, address corrections, and mobile number changes. This has created larger crowds for these administrative services than for actual cylinder bookings."
This behavioral shift comes after the recent shortage period when panic booking became widespread. "During the peak shortage, many customers placed bookings without actually needing immediate refills," the dealer explained. "This artificially inflated the number of pending orders. To streamline our delivery system, agencies are considering cancelling these outdated bookings and requesting customers to rebook only when they genuinely require refills."
Persistent Supply Challenges for Some Distributors
Not all dealers report adequate supply improvements. An Indane distributor described ongoing challenges. "I'm still facing significant shortages in my distribution area," he stated. "We have around 400 pending bookings daily, but receive only about 300 cylinders for distribution. This imbalance means our backlog continues to accumulate rather than diminish."
The distributor emphasized that even a modest supply increase would make a substantial difference. "A slight enhancement in our allocation would enable us to clear pending orders much more efficiently and restore timely service to our customers."
Operational Bottlenecks Contributing to Delays
Beyond supply issues, dealers identified several operational challenges affecting delivery timelines. "Delays are partly attributable to operational difficulties at bottling plants and the late arrival of delivery trucks," the Indane distributor explained. "When trucks arrive late at distribution centers, deliveries often extend into late night hours, disrupting our planned schedules."
Despite these ongoing challenges, dealers acknowledge the overall improvement from the peak shortage period. "The situation has definitely improved compared to the worst days of the recent shortage," the distributor concluded. "However, it may require several more days before we can consistently achieve the 96-hour delivery standard across the entire city of Pune."
