Pune Announces Comprehensive Water Supply Shutdown for Essential Maintenance
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has officially declared a complete water supply cut across all areas of the city, including recently merged regions, scheduled for this Thursday. This planned interruption is necessary to facilitate critical repair and maintenance works at multiple water supply units, purification plants, and overhead storage tanks throughout the metropolitan area.
Extensive Repairs Planned at Key Water Infrastructure
According to a detailed statement released by the civic body's water supply department, the shutdown will enable urgent maintenance activities. Significant repairs are specifically planned at the Bhama Askhed water supply unit, which is a crucial source providing water to the eastern localities along Nagar Road. Additionally, all areas where the PMC supplies water through booster pumping systems will experience disruptions on Thursday.
Officials from the water supply department emphasized that this city-wide water closure has been strategically planned after a gap of approximately one month. The maintenance window will be utilized to install meters at various overhead tanks, alongside conducting essential repairs at several key jackwells, including those located at Parvati, Holkar, Wadgaon, and Khadakwasla.
List of Affected Overhead Tanks and Supply Units
The PMC has identified numerous overhead tanks and water supply units that will be non-operational during the shutdown. The affected infrastructure includes:
- Parvati water supply unit and overhead tank
- Wadgaon water supply facility
- Rajiv Gandhi pumping station
- Cantonment area water supply
- Chandni Chowk overhead tank
- Warje water supply unit
- SNDT water facility
- Kondhwe-Dhawde supply system
- Bhama Askhed water supply unit
Water Supply Restoration Timeline and Advisory
The civic administration has confirmed that water supply will recommence on Friday morning. However, residents should anticipate initial restoration at low pressure as the system stabilizes following the extensive maintenance activities. The PMC advises all citizens to store adequate water in advance to meet their essential needs during the 24-hour shutdown period and to use water judiciously once supply resumes.
This planned maintenance initiative underscores the PMC's ongoing efforts to upgrade and maintain the city's water distribution infrastructure, ensuring long-term reliability and efficiency in water supply services for Pune's growing population.
