Addressing a spirited gathering in Jalandhar, the AAP leader emphasized that the solution lies in creating a powerful societal wave, or 'Lehar', against narcotics, rather than relying solely on punitive police measures, termed 'Kehar'.
A Call for Collective Social Responsibility
Speaking directly to the youth and citizens, Mann outlined his government's dual approach. He stated that while law enforcement agencies continue their crackdown on drug suppliers and peddlers, the ultimate victory can only be achieved through a collective change in public mindset. The Chief Minister passionately appealed to young people to recognize the devastating impact of drugs on their health, careers, and families. He urged them to choose a path of progress and national contribution instead of falling prey to substance abuse.
Mann highlighted the cultural and social dimensions of the problem, arguing that a police-centric approach, though necessary, is insufficient. "The fight against drugs cannot be won solely by putting people behind bars," he asserted. "It requires a massive 'Lehar'—a wave of awareness and rejection from within our homes and communities." This, he believes, will create a sustainable and deeply rooted defense against the menace.
Government Actions and Future Pledges
The Chief Minister did not shy away from detailing the government's ongoing enforcement efforts. He assured the public that his administration is actively pursuing drug traffickers and tightening the noose around supply chains. However, he positioned these actions as one part of a larger strategy.
Mann also took the opportunity to list his government's achievements in other sectors, including providing 600 units of free electricity, improving school infrastructure, and offering government jobs based on merit.
