Punjab CM Mann Details 4-Year Govt Achievements Across Sectors

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Showcases Four Years of Governance Milestones

As the Aam Aadmi Party government completes four years in office in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday asserted that his administration has successfully fulfilled its major electoral guarantees. Mann emphasized that his party's "politics of work" has effectively restored public trust, following the electorate's rejection of traditional political parties in the 2022 state assembly elections.

Transformative Achievements in Power, Education, and Healthcare

In a detailed report to the media, the Chief Minister highlighted significant transformations across critical sectors. He revealed that 90% of Punjab households now receive zero electricity bills, marking a substantial relief for families across the state. Additionally, canal irrigation coverage has expanded dramatically from 26% to 78% of the state's agricultural fields, enhancing water security for farmers.

Mann stated, "In four years, the Punjab government worked tirelessly for the welfare of people and fulfilled the promises made to them. The coming year will be devoted to taking Punjab to a new zenith of development and prosperity."

The education sector witnessed what Mann termed a 'Sikhya Kranti' (education revolution), with over 9,000 smart classrooms established in government schools and 15,000 teachers regularized. This educational overhaul resulted in record-breaking JEE and NEET clearances for government school students in 2026.

Healthcare transformation included the opening of 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics across the state and the launch of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, providing free treatment coverage up to Rs 10 lakh for eligible residents.

Employment Generation and Industrial Investment

The Chief Minister detailed substantial progress on the employment front, with 65,000 government jobs delivered strictly on merit basis. Furthermore, his administration claims to have facilitated the creation of 5.5 lakh private-sector job opportunities, supported by a record Rs 1.55 lakh crore in industrial investment commitments.

Notable among these investments is a massive upcoming project by Tata Steel, signaling strong industrial confidence in Punjab's business environment.

Social Welfare Initiatives and Women's Empowerment

Social welfare remained a priority for the Mann government, with the implementation of a Rs 1,000 monthly allowance for women and Rs 1,500 specifically for women from Scheduled Caste families. The administration also introduced free travel for women in Punjab government buses, with more than 14.5 crore free bus journeys availed annually.

Agricultural Reforms and Environmental Measures

Farmers received eight hours of uninterrupted daytime electricity for irrigation purposes—a first for the state. The government revamped 18,000 neglected canals, restoring water flow to agricultural fields. Punjab's sugarcane farmers now receive Rs 416 per quintal, the highest rate in India.

To address the persistent stubble-burning crisis, the administration distributed 1.58 lakh crop residue management machines and provided the nation's highest crop loss compensation at Rs 20,000 per acre.

Law and Order Improvements

Mann highlighted significant law and order achievements, noting that the state's crime rate now stands at nearly half the national average. The 'Yudh Nashean Virudh' campaign led to record drug seizures, with 68,389 FIRs registered and 92,264 persons arrested under this initiative.

"The Punjab government launched 'Gangsteran Te Vaar' and Operation Prahar to ensure organized gangs are not able to operate from the soil of Punjab," Mann explained. "So far, 44,424 raids have been carried out by teams of 12,000 policemen, which led to the arrest of 14,722 gangsters, including 711 proclaimed offenders."

The Chief Minister also noted the launch of India's first Sadak Surakhya Force (Road Safety Force), which has reduced accident deaths by 50.12% and provided timely assistance to more than 47,000 people during road accidents.

Rural Development and Infrastructure Boost

Rural development witnessed substantial acceleration, with 76,000 families receiving support to build homes in just four years—nearly doubling the output of the previous five-year administration. A massive road repair scheme is currently rebuilding 40,000 kilometres of rural link roads, backed by a five-year maintenance guarantee.

The state cleaned over 13,000 village ponds and upgraded agricultural markets (mandis) with solar panels and covered sheds. The MGNREGA programme generated 2.3 crore workdays with an investment of Rs 1,100 crore in wages for 9 lakh workers.

Sports Infrastructure and Athletic Recognition

In the sports sector, the government is constructing 3,000 village playgrounds with an investment of Rs 1,100 crore, with plans for 6,000 additional facilities. To promote fitness and curb drug dependency, 6,000 indoor gyms are being established across rural areas.

The state honored its athletic icons by awarding Rs 1 crore each to Olympic medal-winning hockey players and Rs 4.91 crore to the 2025 women's cricket World Cup winners.

Upcoming Sports Initiatives

Looking ahead, Mann announced that Punjab is most likely to host the Men's Hockey Asia Cup after a long gap. "The ultra-modern stadium at Burlton Park in Jalandhar will be ready, while the stadium in Mohali will also be used for the tournament," he stated.

The Chief Minister also revealed plans for a world-class international cricket stadium in Amritsar, which he believes will boost sports development and help keep youth away from drugs.

Financial Relief Measures

Mann noted that several toll plazas across Punjab have been closed, saving residents approximately Rs 64 lakh every day in transportation costs.

Political Critique

Throughout his presentation, the Chief Minister took sharp aim at opposition parties, criticizing the Congress, Akalis, and BJP while labeling their past promises as "jumlas" (empty rhetoric).

The comprehensive report underscores the Mann government's focus on delivering tangible development outcomes across multiple sectors as it completes its fourth year in office.
