Bathinda: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday rode a bullock cart for approximately 1 kilometer from his residence in Muktsar's Amar Colony to the BEd College on Chak Bir Road to cast his vote in the municipal council elections. This symbolic act was a protest against the BJP-led central government over rising fuel prices.
Symbolic protest against fuel price hike
Warring stated that the move was intended to send a message that the common people are the real sufferers of the nearly Rs 7.5 per liter fuel price hike in the last 11 days. He warned that people may have to revert to old modes of transport as they become unable to afford four-wheelers or two-wheelers. The Congress leader was accompanied by his wife during the voting.
Impact of fuel price rise
The fuel price hike has added to the financial burden on citizens, with petrol and diesel prices increasing significantly over a short period. Warring's protest highlights the growing discontent over the central government's policies, which he claims are hurting the common man.
The municipal council elections in Muktsar witnessed a low-key campaign, with the Congress focusing on local issues. Warring's bullock cart ride drew attention from locals and media alike, underscoring the party's stance against the fuel price surge.
