Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has declared that achieving a "gangster-free Punjab" will be the foremost priority of his party, holding the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) responsible for the rise of gangster culture in the state.
Atmosphere of Fear
"There is an atmosphere of fear across Punjab. The way gangsters are resorting to killing people, nobody feels secure in the state," Warring stated. He emphasized that the Punjab Congress will take the fight against gangsters to a logical conclusion.
Centre's Action on Web Series
Expressing relief over the Centre blocking the release of the web series 'Lawrence of Punjab', Warring lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for attempting to claim credit for the decision. He pointed out that it was only after his sustained campaign—including serving a legal notice, filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), and writing to the Prime Minister—that the Centre acted.
Warring alleged that the BJP government in Gujarat was protecting and patronizing gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, refusing to allow his transfer out of the state on a production warrant, even when he is involved in heinous crimes outside Gujarat.
The Congress leader's remarks come amid growing concerns over law and order in Punjab, with opposition parties criticizing the AAP government's handling of crime.
