Punjab Congress President Takes Aim at AAP Government Over Bus Color Scheme

In a sharp critique of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, Congress state president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday lambasted the administration for what he described as a politically motivated decision to repaint government buses in the party's signature colors.

"Showing True Colors" Instead of Governance

Warring asserted that the move to paint Punjab Roadways buses in blue and yellow—the same color scheme prominently featured on AAP flags and campaign posters—reflects a government with little substantive achievement to showcase after four years in power. "When you have nothing else to show after 4 years of power, you only end up showing your true colors," he remarked pointedly during his address.

The Congress leader questioned the practical utility and necessity of this initiative, wondering aloud what purpose it serves for the party to repaint buses that were already adequately painted. "You painted the hospitals in the name of Aam Aadmi Clinics, followed by schools and now the buses," he noted, suggesting a pattern of branding public assets with party symbolism rather than focusing on core governance issues.

Potential Backlash and Public Sentiment

Warring warned that such actions could prove counterproductive for the AAP, particularly at a time when public dissatisfaction with the government is reportedly growing. He argued that citizens are already weary of the administration's performance, and witnessing what they perceive as partisan branding of state property only serves to heighten their frustration and agitation.

"The moment people see such things by the ruling party, they get further annoyed and agitated," he emphasized, indicating that the bus repainting scheme might alienate rather than endear the electorate to the AAP.

Breaking with Tradition and State Identity

Highlighting a departure from established norms, Warring pointed out that no previous government in Punjab, or elsewhere in the country for that matter, has ever altered the color scheme of state-run buses. The existing colors, he explained, have been in place for decades and have become easily recognizable symbols of Punjab Roadways, allowing commuters to identify these buses from a distance without confusion.

"Such things were seen as symbols of particular states, which should not be changed at any stage or at any cost," he stated, underscoring the importance of preserving these visual identifiers as part of the state's public transport heritage and identity.

The controversy emerges against a backdrop of broader political tensions, with the Congress party positioning itself to capitalize on perceived missteps by the AAP government ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
