Punjab Congress Leader Applauds Himachal Pradesh CM for Tax Reversal
In a significant development, Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring extended his heartfelt thanks to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday for reversing the decision to hike the entry tax on vehicles entering the state. This move comes as a major relief for residents and travelers, particularly from neighboring Punjab, who were facing increased financial burdens due to the proposed tax increase.
Gratitude Conveyed in Phone Call and Social Media Post
Warring personally spoke with Sukhu over the phone to convey his appreciation for the decision. Following their conversation, he took to social media platform X to publicly acknowledge the chief minister's responsiveness. "I express my gratitude to the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Sukhu for conceding to our request to revert the entry tax for outside vehicles, including those from Punjab, to the previous rate," Warring stated in his post. This gesture highlights the collaborative efforts between political leaders to address public concerns and foster interstate harmony.
Additional Relief for Border Area Residents
In another major concession, Warring announced that residents living within a five-kilometer radius of the state border will now receive free entry into Himachal Pradesh. This policy is expected to benefit thousands of people in the border regions of both states, easing travel and promoting economic and social interactions. According to Warring, the Himachal Pradesh chief minister informed him that these free entry passes can be issued by the respective Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) or tehsildars in the two states for all eligible individuals residing within the designated five-kilometer belt.
The reversal of the entry tax hike and the introduction of free entry for border residents underscore a commitment to public welfare and regional cooperation. These measures are likely to alleviate financial pressures on commuters and strengthen ties between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, setting a positive precedent for future interstate policies.
