Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora Unveils Rs 1.7 Crore Development Projects in Ludhiana
In a significant boost to urban infrastructure and community welfare, Punjab Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Industries and Commerce, and Power and Investment Promotion, Sanjeev Arora, inaugurated several key development projects in Ludhiana on Friday. The total value of these initiatives is estimated at around Rs 1.7 crore, marking a substantial investment in the city's growth and public amenities.
Multi-Purpose Sports Park Transforms Former Garbage Site
The highlight of the inauguration was a state-of-the-art multi-purpose sports park located near Children Day, behind the Civil Hospital. This facility, developed at a cost of approximately Rs 91 lakh, has been established on a site that was previously in ruins and used as a garbage dumping ground for decades. Minister Arora emphasized that this transformation represents a major step forward in urban renewal and environmental cleanup.
The sports park features four dedicated grounds designed to cater to various athletic interests:
- A cricket ground equipped for box cricket
- A Pickleball court
- A Volleyball court
- A Basketball court
During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Arora actively participated in sports activities with local youth, underscoring the government's commitment to fostering a culture of physical fitness and community engagement. The sports park will be available free of charge to all residents, making it an accessible hub for recreational and competitive activities.
Redeveloped Vishwakarma Park Enhances Green Spaces
Another key project inaugurated was the redeveloped Vishwakarma Park on Jaimal Singh Road, also known as Gill Road. This park has been revitalized at an investment of around Rs 38 lakh, with new amenities aimed at promoting sports and healthy living among citizens.
The park now includes:
- Badminton courts
- Basketball courts
These additions are expected to attract more visitors and encourage regular physical activity, contributing to the overall well-being of the community.
Sewer Line Project to Improve Sanitation in SAS Nagar
Further expanding the scope of development, Minister Arora launched a crucial infrastructure project to lay sewer lines in Sahibzada Ajit Singh (SAS) Nagar, situated behind the Dholewal Military Complex. This initiative, with an estimated cost of Rs 45 lakh, aims to enhance sanitation and public health standards in the area.
The sewer line project is part of a broader effort to upgrade urban utilities and ensure a cleaner, more sustainable environment for residents. By addressing basic infrastructure needs, the government seeks to improve the quality of life and support long-term urban planning goals.
Broader Vision: Combating Drug Menace Through Sports
Minister Arora highlighted that the development of sports infrastructure is integral to a larger societal mission: eradicating the drug menace, known locally as Yudh Nashian Virudh, and steering youth toward positive, healthy lifestyles. By providing accessible and high-quality sports facilities, the government aims to create alternatives that deter substance abuse and foster community cohesion.
These projects in Ludhiana are part of a city-wide initiative to develop quality infrastructure on a significant scale. With ongoing investments across various sectors, the Punjab government is committed to transforming urban landscapes and enhancing public services to meet the evolving needs of its citizens.
