Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora Inaugurates Major Road Infrastructure Projects in Ludhiana
In a significant move to enhance urban connectivity, Punjab Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Industries and Commerce, Investment Promotion, and Power, Sanjeev Arora, inaugurated multiple road projects with a total value exceeding Rs 8.6 crore in Ludhiana on Thursday. This initiative marks a pivotal step in the state's broader strategy to revamp its transportation network.
Details of the Inaugurated Road Projects
The newly launched projects focus on critical stretches within the city, aimed at improving traffic flow and road safety. The key developments include:
- Reconstruction of the old GT Road: This project covers the segment from Jalandhar bypass to Buddha Dariya, addressing long-standing maintenance issues.
- Elevated road construction: Spanning from Chand cinema to Jagraon bridge, this upgrade is designed to alleviate congestion in high-traffic areas.
- Road enhancement from Saggu Chowk to Hambran Road: This stretch will undergo comprehensive reconstruction to ensure smoother commutes.
Financially, the old GT Road and elevated road projects are allocated a budget of Rs 7 crore, while the Saggu Chowk to Hambran Road project is set at over Rs 1.5 crore, reflecting the state's commitment to targeted infrastructure investment.
State-Wide Infrastructure Overhaul and Quality Assurance
During the inauguration, Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora emphasized that road infrastructure across Punjab is undergoing a massive transformation. He revealed that projects worth Rs 1,000 crore are slated for completion by the end of April, underscoring the scale of this initiative.
Arora directed civic body officials to enforce stringent quality standards in all development works. He warned that contractors found compromising on quality would be blacklisted, ensuring accountability. Additionally, to guarantee durability, contractors will be responsible for road maintenance for up to five years post-construction.
Broader Infrastructure Initiatives and Environmental Efforts
Beyond the Rs 1,000 crore urban road projects, Arora highlighted that other departments, such as PWD and Rural Development, are also executing major road upgrades across the state. Modern machinery is being deployed to efficiently repair potholes, further enhancing road conditions.
In a related environmental push, Arora mentioned rigorous efforts to rejuvenate Buddha Dariya, with positive changes already visible at the ground level. He reiterated that these projects are people-centric, aimed at facilitating the public and improving overall quality of life in Punjab.
Looking ahead, Arora announced that more crore-worth projects will be launched in Ludhiana in the coming days, signaling ongoing investment in the city's infrastructure. This comprehensive approach aligns with the state government's vision for sustainable urban development and enhanced connectivity.
