The Punjab Government Pensioners' Association on Wednesday condemned the police lathicharge against protesting apprentice linemen in Patiala last week, terming the action as 'unjustified and inhumane.' The association urged the state government to address the genuine demands of both employees and pensioners.
Solidarity with Apprentice Linemen
The union expressed full solidarity with the apprentice linemen, who are demanding permanent appointments. Additionally, the association extended its support to employees working at Sewa Kendras and called upon the government to resolve their pending issues at the earliest possible opportunity.
Pensioners' Grievances Ignored
Addressing a gathering, Harjit Singh, a representative of the association, alleged that the state government has failed to pay adequate attention to the concerns of pensioners. He claimed that during meetings with pensioners' organizations, assurances were given that their demands would be considered, but no concrete action has followed. Singh noted that the continued delay in addressing pensioners' issues has led to widespread resentment among the community.
The association reiterated its demand for immediate steps to resolve the pending issues of pensioners and urged the government to ensure that such incidents of excessive force are not repeated in the future.
