Jaipur: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is set to visit Pushkar on June 1 to engage with newly appointed District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents who are attending a residential training camp under the party's Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan. Party insiders revealed that Gandhi is also anticipated to gather feedback from Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and DCC office-bearers regarding the organization's functioning. This visit is perceived as part of the Congress party's broader initiative to reinforce its organizational framework in Rajasthan ahead of upcoming local body elections.
Congress Leaders Address Key Issues at Camp
During the camp on Thursday, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully directed sharp criticism at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments at both the central and state levels, particularly focusing on the escalating unemployment crisis. He accused the ruling party of diverting the youth's attention from genuine concerns through what he termed as "politics of hollow promises and communalism."
Unemployment Data Highlighted
Jully referenced the Azim Premji University's "State of Working India 2026" report to underscore the severity of the job market. According to the report, approximately five million graduates enter the workforce annually, yet only 1.7 million manage to secure employment. Citing various media sources, Jully further claimed that youth unemployment stands at 15.2%, with the rate among young women reaching a staggering 18%.
Criticism of Economic Policies
In addition to employment issues, Jully also took aim at the demonetization and Goods and Services Tax (GST) policies implemented by the BJP government. He alleged that these measures have severely impacted micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as informal establishments, resulting in widespread job losses. The Congress leader argued that the policies have failed to deliver the promised economic benefits and have instead exacerbated unemployment and economic distress.
This visit and the ongoing training camp are seen as strategic moves by the Congress party to revitalize its grassroots presence and address pressing public concerns ahead of the local body polls in Rajasthan.
