In a significant political move, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday conducted a thorough review of the recently concluded gram panchayat elections. The meeting, which lasted three hours, set a clear and ambitious target for the Congress party ahead of the next round of local body polls.
Post-Panchayat Poll Assessment and Future Roadmap
The Chief Minister, along with his cabinet ministers, meticulously assessed both the "gains and gaps" from the panchayat elections. He used this analysis to chart the course for the upcoming mandal parishad territorial constituency (MPTC) and zilla parishad territorial constituency (ZPTC) elections. Revanth Reddy exhorted the Congress functionaries to work relentlessly towards achieving a clean sweep of all zilla parishad seats across the state of Telangana.
Emphasizing the need for swift and decisive action, the CM urged his ministers to finalize the election schedule at the earliest. "Let's decide soon when to hold the elections," he stated, underlining the importance of clarity and preparedness. He congratulated the ministers for their efforts in the panchayat polls but insisted on carrying the same momentum forward into the ZPTC, MPTC, and the crucial Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.
Grassroots Strategy and Countering Opposition Narrative
To strengthen the party's connection at the village level, Revanth Reddy proposed a novel strategy. He suggested that ministers hold informal meetings with sarpanches in their respective districts. This initiative is aimed at bolstering coordination, addressing local concerns, and fostering greater unity within the party machinery at the grassroots.
The Chief Minister also issued a firm directive to his cabinet to aggressively counter the narrative of the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). He specifically pointed to what he termed 'misleading claims' by the BRS on the Palamuru-Rangareddy project. Ministers were instructed to clearly communicate to the public the alleged injustices faced by Telangana in the sharing of river waters, a long-standing and sensitive issue in the state's politics.
Assembly Session and Beyond
Looking ahead, Revanth Reddy announced that the state assembly session will commence on January 2. He stressed the necessity for the government to raise pending issues related to the Krishna and Godavari river waters during the session, indicating that water resources will be a central theme of his administration's legislative agenda.
The marathon meeting also served as a platform to review the outcomes of the recent Telangana Rising Global Summit. The discussions highlighted the various collaborations and investment commitments secured during the summit, showcasing the government's parallel focus on economic development and industrial growth alongside its political preparations.
The comprehensive review signals the Congress government's intent to consolidate its position by dominating the upcoming tiers of local governance, while simultaneously tackling key infrastructural and resource-based criticisms from the opposition.
