In a significant push for development in a region he termed "neglected," Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday made a fervent appeal to the people of Mahabubnagar district. He urged them to reject political "conspirators" and instead elect village sarpanches who would collaborate with the state government to accelerate welfare and growth.
A Blueprint for a Backward District
The Chief Minister laid out a comprehensive vision to bring Mahabubnagar on par with the most developed districts in India. He pledged his personal responsibility to complete all pending irrigation projects, establish new educational institutions, provide a bonus for fine variety paddy, and ensure the procurement of agricultural produce. "Funds will flow and development will come. Together we can develop this neglected and backward district," Revanth Reddy asserted, addressing a public gathering.
Highlighting BRS-Era Neglect, Showcasing Congress Initiative
Revanth Reddy singled out the Narayanpet-Kodangal lift irrigation project as a prime example of the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government's apathy. He stated that work on this crucial project began only after the Congress came to power, following a decade of inaction. The compensation for land acquisition was enhanced to ₹20 lakh, leading to 96% of landowners agreeing to part with their land. The CM announced that the project would be completed within two years and is expected to irrigate over one lakh acres, transforming the agricultural landscape.
In a sharp political attack, he criticized former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), stating that the people voted him out because "he did nothing for this backward district," despite Mahabubnagar having sent him to Parliament.
No Discrimination in Development: ₹2800 Crore School Sanctions
Emphasizing his government's inclusive approach, the Chief Minister stated that development works were not being withheld from constituencies represented by opposition MLAs. As evidence, he pointed to sanctions granted for Young India Integrated Residential Schools worth ₹2,800 crore across fourteen constituencies. This includes two constituencies represented by non-Congress MLAs, underscoring a policy of non-discrimination in allocation of development funds.
Foundation for a New Mahabubnagar
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister inaugurated a series of development projects aimed at boosting infrastructure in the district. In Makthal municipality, he laid foundation stones for works valued at ₹118.82 crore. The key projects include:
- General infrastructure works worth ₹8 crore.
- A new sports complex costing ₹25 crore.
- New classrooms and facilities at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) with an outlay of ₹3.5 crore.
- The first phase of the 26 km Makthal-Narayanpet road, constructed at a cost of ₹82.32 crore.
Furthermore, development works costing ₹151.92 crore were launched in Atmakur and Amarachinta municipalities within the Makthal constituency, signaling a wide-ranging infrastructure upgrade across the region.
The Chief Minister's visit and detailed announcements mark a concerted effort by the Congress government to address regional disparities and fulfill electoral promises, with Mahabubnagar positioned as a key focus area for transformative development.
