Ranchi Municipal Corp Freezes Bank Accounts Over Rs 6.8L Tax Dues
RMC freezes hotel accounts for pending holding taxes

Ranchi Civic Body Takes Strict Action Against Tax Defaulters

The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has taken stringent measures against two commercial establishments in the city for their persistent failure to clear outstanding holding taxes. On Tuesday, the civic body issued orders to freeze the bank accounts of a prominent hotel and an adjacent guest house located at Station Road.

Substantial Outstanding Amounts

According to official documents released by RMC, the financial liabilities are significant. The hotel has accumulated pending taxes amounting to Rs 4,82,770, while the guest house owes Rs 2,04,096 to the municipal corporation. The combined outstanding amount totals approximately Rs 6.86 lakh, which has been pending despite multiple reminders from the authorities.

Legal Enforcement Under Municipal Act

The municipal corporation has invoked Section 184 (D) of the Jharkhand Municipality Act 2011 to authorize this decisive action. This legal provision empowers the civic body to seize and recover funds from bank accounts of persistent tax defaulters. An RMC statement clarified that the action followed numerous notices and reminders sent to both establishments, all of which failed to yield the required tax payments.

Municipal officials have been directed to coordinate with banking authorities to implement the account freezing orders immediately. This move represents the corporation's strengthened approach toward revenue recovery and enforcing tax compliance among commercial property owners in the city.

The Station Road area, being a prime commercial location in Ranchi, has several hotels and guest houses, and this action serves as a strong message to other potential defaulters about the consequences of ignoring municipal tax obligations.
