Major Funding Boost for Parvathipuram Municipality in Andhra Pradesh
The Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned a substantial amount of Rs 92 crore for the comprehensive development of Parvathipuram municipality. This significant financial allocation aims to address long-standing infrastructure gaps and enhance urban amenities in the region.
Minister's Field Visit and Immediate Allocations
State Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P Narayana conducted an extensive field visit to various areas within Parvathipuram municipality on Sunday. During this visit, he announced the immediate allocation of Rs 1 crore for the development of a major park, as specifically requested by the local MLA. Out of three proposed parks, one will be developed as a model park, with official orders to be issued shortly.
Government Commitments to Urban Infrastructure
Minister Narayana outlined the state government's broader responsibilities, stating, "The state government will take full responsibility for improving drinking water and drainage systems across the state, while municipalities will handle the maintenance of roads and street lighting." He further revealed that the installation of new LED streetlights in urban areas is scheduled to commence in June, marking a significant step towards energy-efficient urban lighting.
Historical Context and Future Demands
Parvathipuram MLA Bonela Vijayachandra highlighted the historical underdevelopment of the town, noting that despite becoming a municipality in 1959, it has not progressed as expected. He emphasized the growing population and the town's importance as a district headquarters, urging the government to upgrade the municipality from its current special grade status to better reflect its strategic role and developmental needs.
This funding initiative represents a critical move towards revitalizing Parvathipuram's urban landscape, addressing both immediate park development and long-term infrastructure challenges such as water supply, drainage, and modern street lighting.
