Vadodara: CM Bhupendra Patel to Inaugurate Civic Projects Worth Rs 921 Crore
Rs 921 Crore Civic Projects Launch in Vadodara

In a significant push for urban infrastructure, a series of major civic projects in Vadodara, with a combined value of nearly a thousand crore rupees, are set to be formally launched this Friday. The ceremonies will be presided over by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, marking a substantial investment in the city's development.

Massive Investment in Roads, Water, and Drainage

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) will hold inauguration and groundbreaking ceremonies for projects with a total worth of Rs 921.61 crore. A key focus is on improving connectivity, with work formally beginning on 30 road projects for which orders were issued back in October. These projects, with a combined cost of Rs 62 crore, had experienced delays due to preparatory works like shifting utility lines.

Overall, construction will commence on 41 road projects involving a total investment of Rs 129.86 crore. However, the largest share of investment is directed towards essential water and sewage infrastructure. The CM will launch 17 new water supply projects worth Rs 255.6 crore and inaugurate three completed water projects valued at Rs 4.92 crore.

Furthermore, five drainage projects worth Rs 231.93 crore will be handed over, and foundation stones will be laid for an additional 12 drainage projects costing Rs 74.55 lakh.

Vadodara Urban Haat: A New Hub for Artisans

Separately, a landmark cultural and commercial project, the Vadodara Urban Haat and Exhibition Center, will also see work begin. The Roads and Buildings Department will commence its development at a cost of Rs 35.63 crore.

First announced in August 2023, the project received its budgetary allocation from the state government in February this year. It is being developed on the cleared site of the former government technical institute at Dandia Bazaar Crossroads.

The Urban Haat is designed to be a comprehensive center for artisans, providing facilities to exhibit and sell their products. The plan includes an amphitheatre, dedicated dining and residential spaces for artisans, a food court for visitors, and ample open areas for public recreation, aiming to boost local crafts and tourism.

Formal Launch After Preparatory Phase

The events on Friday signify the formal start of work following necessary administrative and preparatory stages. The projects are part of a larger list of civic works that Chief Minister Patel will flag off, underscoring the state government's focus on urban development in Gujarat's cultural capital. This massive infusion of funds into roads, water supply, drainage, and cultural infrastructure is expected to significantly enhance the city's livability and economic vibrancy.
