Vigilance Bureau Intensifies Probe Against SAD Leader
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikramjit Singh Majithia faces escalating legal challenges as the Vigilance Bureau (VB) made a significant arrest in connection with an ongoing disproportionate assets investigation. Harpreet Singh Gulati, identified as a close associate of Majithia, was taken into custody by the investigating agency.
Key Arrest and Property Links Uncovered
According to VB officials, Gulati's arrest is directly linked to allegations that Majithia acquired premium real estate properties in Shimla and Delhi through his aide. The bureau claims these transactions form part of wealth that appears disproportionate to Majithia's known sources of income.
Following his arrest, Gulati was presented before the duty magistrate on Sunday. The court granted the VB six days of police custody for detailed interrogation. Investigators believe Gulati's questioning will reveal crucial information about the financial transactions and property documents already traced by the bureau.
Fugitive Declaration Sought Against Family Member
In a parallel development demonstrating the investigation's expanding scope, the Vigilance Bureau has approached the Mohali court seeking to declare Gajpat Singh Grewal, Majithia's brother-in-law, as a fugitive. The application states that Grewal has consistently avoided investigation despite multiple notices being served at his known addresses.
VB officials confirmed that notices were delivered to several of Grewal's properties, including his Sangrur residence and Delhi properties in Vasant Vihar and Defence Colony. However, he failed to respond to any of these legal communications.
The recent addition of criminal conspiracy charges to the case has made Grewal's testimony particularly crucial for investigators. His continued non-cooperation has compelled the bureau to pursue more stringent legal measures to ensure his appearance before authorities.
Investigation Expands with New Findings
The Vigilance Bureau has reiterated its commitment to uncovering the complete extent of alleged illegal assets and identifying all individuals involved in facilitating their acquisition. The investigation continues to develop as more evidence emerges about the financial networks and property holdings under scrutiny.
With Gulati now formally designated as a co-accused in the case and Grewal facing potential fugitive status, the legal pressure on Majithia and his associates continues to mount. The hearing regarding Grewal's fugitive status is scheduled for Monday, marking the next significant development in this high-profile case.
