The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has launched a scathing attack on the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab, accusing it of illegally arresting Kanchanpreet Kaur in direct violation of the High Court's orders. The party expressed deep gratitude to the judiciary for intervening and preventing any police remand in the case until the trial court hearing scheduled for Saturday evening.
SAD's Legal Challenge Against Government
During a press conference addressed by Arshdeep Singh Kler, the head of SAD's legal cell, the party made serious allegations against the state administration. Kler asserted that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the state DGP, and top police officers had deliberately challenged the High Court's authority by adding non-bailable offences in another case against Kanchanpreet, despite the court having earlier granted her interim bail in four separate cases.
"It is absolutely clear that the AAP government has forced the police to arrest Kanchanpreet in an act of pure vengeance," Kler stated emphatically during the media interaction. He further accused the ruling government of attempting to create a false narrative against the young leader.
Fabricated Cases and Political Vendetta
The SAD legal cell head revealed a crucial detail that undermines the government's position. "The fact of the matter is that no criminal case was registered against her before the elections," Kler declared, suggesting a clear pattern of politically motivated cases being filed after the election process began.
Kler issued a stern warning to the police officers involved in the case, stating that those who registered false cases against Kanchanpreet and arrested her without following due legal norms would be held accountable for their "illegal" acts. The party emphasized that proper legal procedures were blatantly ignored in this case.
Judicial Intervention and Public Appeal
The SAD leader informed that he personally filed a petition in the High Court on Saturday, which resulted in crucial directions being given to the trial court. The court was instructed not to grant any remand in the case until Kanchanpreet's advocates could reach the court premises. "Accordingly, the trial court will decide whether the non-bailable offence added in the bailable FIR was correct or not," Kler explained.
The party expressed outrage that the AAP government was targeting a young woman leader with fabricated charges, demonstrating what they called a complete lack of respect for the daughters of Punjab and for the rule of law. Senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema made an emotional appeal to all democratic, social, and women's organizations to rise above political differences and condemn this heinous misuse of power.
"This evil must be nipped in the bud. Such unconstitutional actions cannot be allowed to continue on the sacred land of our great Gurus," Cheema asserted, invoking Punjab's spiritual heritage to emphasize the seriousness of the situation.
