A 42-year-old man allegedly stabbed his father to death following a prolonged property dispute in Salem. The incident took place at Sanniyasigundu near Kitchipalayam on Wednesday.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the accused, identified as Sridhar, had been persistently pressuring his father, Dhanapal, to transfer a 10,000-square-foot ancestral property located in the Raja Pillai Kadu area of Kitchipalayam to his name. The demand had been ongoing for a considerable period.
On Wednesday, Sridhar visited his father's residence, and the two engaged in a heated argument. When Dhanapal refused to comply with his son's demands, Sridhar grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his father in the chest. The attack was fatal, and Dhanapal died on the spot.
Injuries to Sister
When Sridhar's younger sister, Priya, rushed to assist her father, the accused turned on her as well. He attacked her with the same knife, causing injuries. Her cries for help alerted neighbors, who promptly intervened, restrained Sridhar, and informed the authorities.
Legal Action
Police arrived at the scene, registered a case, and arrested Sridhar. Dhanapal's body was sent to the Salem Government Hospital for postmortem examination. Preliminary investigations revealed that Sridhar worked at a vegetable shop and had been residing with his wife in the Sankari area for the past few years.
The motive behind the murder appears to be the longstanding property dispute, with Sridhar allegedly frustrated by his father's refusal to transfer the land. Further investigations are underway.
