Karnataka Minister Santosh Lad Speaks on Party Dynamics and National Issues
In a recent address from Dharwad, Karnataka minister Santosh Lad provided insights into the ongoing discussions within the Congress party, particularly focusing on the aspirations of its leaders for ministerial positions. He emphasized that ambition is a natural part of political life, but stressed the importance of adhering to party protocols.
On Ministerial Aspirations and Party Protocol
Santosh Lad stated that it is entirely normal for members of the Congress party to harbor ambitions for ministerial roles. "Everyone has ambitions. There is nothing wrong in asking for a ministerial post. However, no one should go beyond party protocol," he remarked. This comment comes amid reports of several Congress leaders visiting Delhi, sparking speculation about potential reshuffles or appointments. Lad's words highlight a balance between individual aspirations and collective discipline within the party framework.
Critique of BJP on Women's Reservation Bill
Turning to the Women's Reservation Bill, Lad recalled the Congress party's efforts during its tenure, noting that the bill was passed in the Lok Sabha and an attempt was made to push it in the Rajya Sabha. "We did not have the required majority in the Rajya Sabha at that time," he explained. He then criticized the BJP, accusing them of failing to address the issue seriously despite being in power for over a decade. "They call themselves 'Vishwaguru', but have not spoken meaningfully about women's reservation. There is confusion within their ranks, especially regarding delimitation," Lad asserted.
While welcoming the bill in principle, Lad accused the BJP of distorting facts and engaging in irresponsible behavior. "They are experts at twisting issues. When the country faces challenges, they tend to celebrate instead of responding responsibly. Discussions should be logical and constructive," he added, urging for more substantive debates on such critical matters.
Views on Middle East Conflict and Foreign Policy
Commenting on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Lad pointed to policies under former US President Donald Trump as having negatively impacted global stability. He advocated for India to take firm positions and engage strategically with countries that align with national interests. "India must take firm positions and engage with countries that serve our national interest," he emphasized.
Lad also expressed concerns about the Prime Minister's visible alignment with Israel, suggesting that such stances might not be appropriate. "Foreign policy should remain balanced and aligned with national priorities," he remarked, calling for a more nuanced approach to international relations that prioritizes India's sovereignty and strategic goals.
In summary, Santosh Lad's address covered a range of topics from internal party dynamics to national and global issues, reflecting his perspective on governance, policy, and diplomatic strategies.
