Satheeshan Clarifies Congress Campaign Structure, Criticizes LDF Governance
Satheeshan on Congress Campaign, Criticizes LDF Governance

Satheeshan Defines Congress Election Strategy as Standard Practice

In Kozhikode on Friday, Opposition leader V D Satheeshan addressed recent developments within the Congress party, stating that the formation of publicity and manifesto committees ahead of elections is a routine procedural step. This clarification came in response to the appointment of former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala as chairman of the campaign committee and MP Benny Behanan as chairman of the manifesto committee.

Emphasis on Collective Decision-Making and UDF Unity

Satheeshan highlighted the active involvement of key leaders such as Shashi Tharoor, Chennithala, Behanan, and Kodikunnil Suresh in the ongoing campaign efforts. He stressed that all decisions are made collectively, underscoring the importance of teamwork within the United Democratic Front (UDF). Additionally, he noted that the Puthu Yuga Yatra conveys a unique message not typically associated with such political journeys, focusing on discussions about Kerala's future and aiming to reshape the state's political and social agendas.

He further emphasized that unity is essential for progress, advising caution against division. Satheeshan expressed anticipation for political change across Kerala, including the Malabar region, and urged avoiding unnecessary discussions and controversies to maximize time for positive actions.

Criticism of LDF Governance and Delayed Justice

Satheeshan voiced strong criticism regarding governance under the Left Democratic Front (LDF), citing a specific case involving a survivor's complaint against former CPM MLA P T Kunju Muhammed. He expressed shame over living in Kerala after reading the survivor's article, noting that despite a complaint filed with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on November 24, 2025, no FIR was registered until December 8. This delay, he argued, illustrates leniency when the accused are connected to those in power.

In contrast, he pointed out that a similar complaint given to KPCC chief Sunny Joseph was acted upon promptly, with an FIR filed the same day. The 14-day delay in the other case, according to Satheeshan, represents a serious lapse by the Chief Minister. He commended the survivor's courage, questioning the treatment women face when filing complaints at police stations, where they are often ridiculed—a situation he deemed unacceptable.

Allegations of Scam in Global Ayyappa Sangamam

Satheeshan also raised allegations of corruption in the Global Ayyappa Sangamam event, labeling it as another scam exploiting Lord Ayyappa's name. He claimed that boards featuring the Chief Minister's image were placed across Kerala for the event, and despite High Court oversight, millions of rupees were embezzled. Funds were reportedly collected in the names of non-participants and recorded under a bhajan group that did not perform, highlighting mismanagement.

Textbook Distribution and Curriculum Concerns

Addressing educational issues, Satheeshan acknowledged that during UDF rule, textbook distribution was delayed once, but dismissed claims that students used photocopies for five years as exaggerated propaganda. He noted that similar delays occurred under the previous LDF administration. While commending early distribution efforts, he criticized the government for failing to update the curriculum. Satheeshan argued that merely distributing textbooks is insufficient; the curriculum must be revised to meet current educational standards for effective learning.
