Satish Jarkiholi led a delegation of Scheduled Tribe (ST) community leaders to Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Thursday, seeking restoration of quota benefits and addressing the lack of representation in higher education.
Delegation demands quota restoration
The delegation highlighted that not a single vice chancellor in the state belongs to the ST community, pointing to a significant gap in representation. They urged the Chief Minister to take immediate steps to address this disparity and restore quota benefits that have been diluted over time.
CM assures action
Chief Minister D K Shivakumar assured the delegation that the government would consider their demands sympathetically. He noted that the state is committed to ensuring social justice and equitable opportunities for all communities, including STs.
The meeting comes amid growing concerns among ST communities about their diminishing share in education and employment. Leaders emphasized the need for concrete policy measures to reverse this trend.
