In a significant move to accelerate development in the northeastern region, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday inaugurated and launched a series of projects worth a substantial Rs 646.39 crore for Nagaland. The event, held at Tuophema in Kohima, marks a major investment by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) aimed at transforming the state's infrastructure and public services.
Five Major Projects Inaugurated Across Key Sectors
The minister formally inaugurated five completed projects spanning the power, education, and public works departments. This direct infusion of funds is expected to address critical gaps and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Under the power department, the upgradation of the 132 kV sub-station at Nagarjan in Dimapur has been completed with an investment of Rs 24.46 crore. This crucial upgrade is designed to significantly boost the power transformation capacity in the area, promising more stable electricity supply.
For the school education sector, two key initiatives were unveiled. Scindia inaugurated an In-Service Teachers Training-cum-Examination Centre with residential facilities, built at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Simultaneously, a project for implementing IT infrastructure in 190 schools across Nagaland, valued at Rs 18.95 crore, was also launched. This move aims to modernize education and bridge the digital divide for students.
Road Connectivity Gets a Major Push
Enhancing transportation links formed a core part of the inaugurated projects under the Public Works Department (Roads & Bridges). Two vital road projects were completed and opened. These include the upgradation of the Chendang Saddle-Noklak Road undertaken with Rs 45.59 crore, and the improvement of the AT Road from Tsusangra to Impur Junction, which includes bridges, constructed for Rs 93.98 crore. These improved roads are set to facilitate better connectivity and economic activity in the regions they serve.
Foundation for Future: 11 New Projects Launched
Looking beyond the immediate inaugurations, the event also set the stage for future development. Union Minister Scindia laid the foundation stones for 11 new projects across diverse sectors including health, sports, IT, power, and public works.
A major highlight in the health sector is the foundation laying for a multi-speciality hospital at Chümoukedima, which will cost Rs 58.72 crore. Additionally, a 50-bed hospital at the new Peren district headquarters was initiated with an allocation of Rs 44.65 crore. These healthcare facilities are poised to dramatically improve medical access and services for the local population.
The comprehensive rollout of both completed and new projects underscores the central government's focused strategy on strengthening Nagaland's core infrastructure. The investments in power, education, roads, and healthcare are expected to create long-term benefits, fostering economic growth and improving public service delivery across the state.
