Employees from Sewa Kendras across Tarn Taran district staged a protest march under the leadership of union president Gursewak Singh to press for their demands. The march highlighted the employees' long-standing grievances regarding low wages and lack of permanency.
Memorandum Presented to MLA
The union leaders presented a memorandum outlining their demands to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Harmit Singh Sandhu. Addressing the protesters were Gursewak Singh, Varinder Singh, Harman Singh, Kanwalpreet Singh, Beant Kaur, and other union leaders.
Condemnation of Government Attitude
The leaders condemned the state government for not bringing their services directly under its control. They stated that for the past 10 years, they have been working in Sewa Kendras on meagre wages, and both the government and the company have adopted a "dictatorial" attitude towards the employees.
Resentment Over Omission from Permanent Jobs List
They expressed surprise that the state government had campaigned about making employees permanent in various departments just two days ago, but the interests of Sewa Kendra employees were not included in that list, causing huge resentment among them.
Warning of Gherao
The leaders warned the state government that if their interests were not protected, they would gherao the employment office on June 3.
Support from Political Parties
Leaders from various political parties joined the protest march, including Kanchanpreet Kaur, in-charge of Shiromani Akali Dal Tarn Taran constituency, and Harjit Singh Sandhu, BJP district president. They participated in the march to support the struggle of the Sewa Kendra employees.
