Leaders from both Shiv Sena factions have publicly endorsed the idea of a reunion nearly four years after the party's split. Sena UBT leader Ambadas Danve and Shiv Sena leader Abdul Sattar argued that the Bharatiya Janata Party's growing dominance in Maharashtra now poses a bigger challenge than internal rivalry. Both leaders claimed the BJP is weakening regional allies and suggested that a merger could happen if Eknath Shinde agrees. The remarks have reignited speculation about a possible Sena reunion.
Growing Concerns Over BJP Dominance
Danve and Sattar expressed that the BJP's increasing influence in the state is undermining regional parties. They emphasized that the Shiv Sena, once united, was a formidable force against the BJP. However, the split in 2022 weakened the party, allowing the BJP to consolidate power. According to them, the current political scenario demands a united front to counter the BJP's hegemony.
Possibility of Merger
Both leaders indicated that a reunion is possible if Shinde agrees to certain conditions. They stressed that the internal differences should be set aside for the larger goal of protecting Maharashtra's interests. While no formal talks have been announced, the statements have sparked discussions among party workers and political analysts.
The call for unity comes at a time when the BJP is expanding its footprint in Maharashtra, winning over former allies and smaller parties. The Shiv Sena factions realize that continued division only benefits the BJP. Whether this leads to an actual merger remains to be seen, but the rhetoric has certainly shifted towards reconciliation.
