The Haryana government on Saturday carried out a major reshuffle of senior police officers, appointing 1999-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Sibash Kabiraj as the new Gurgaon police commissioner. He replaces 1998-batch officer Vikas Arora, who has been posted as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for administration at the police headquarters in Panchkula.
Who is Sibash Kabiraj?
Kabiraj, aged 51, was serving as the Panchkula police commissioner with the additional charge of ADGP for cyber and state crime branch headquarters director. He is expected to assume his new role on Tuesday. Originally from Bihar, Kabiraj was awarded the President's Police Medal last year and was promoted to the rank of ADGP in December. Throughout his career, he has held various positions across Haryana and Chandigarh, including joint commissioner in Gurgaon and Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Ambala Range.
During his tenure as regional passport officer in Chandigarh in 2023, Kabiraj worked on reducing passport processing times and established a special task force to assist women, particularly young brides who were abandoned by husbands returning from abroad. The task force focused on canceling such passports to protect the women.
Other Key Postings in the Reshuffle
The reshuffle also brought changes to several Gurgaon-linked positions. Senior IPS officer Charu Bali, a 1995-batch officer, who was serving as ADGP for the Recruit Training Centre (RTC) in Bhondsi with additional charge of the Bhondsi Police Complex and the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB) headquarters in Panchkula, has been posted as ADGP for the Bhondsi Police Complex. Dr. Matta Ravi Kiran, ADGP for the Karnal Range, has been posted as ADGP for SV&ACB, relieving Bali of that additional responsibility.
Naazneen Bhasin, Inspector General (IG) for the South Range in Rewari, who also held the additional charge of IGP for RTC Bhondsi, has been given dual charge as IGP for the Haryana Armed Police in Madhuban and IGP for RTC Bhondsi. Additionally, 2021-batch IPS officer Aditi Singh, who was awaiting posting, has been appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) for SV&ACB, replacing Poonam of the Haryana Police Service (HPS).
